When he was only a wee lad Tate’s mother would tell him tales of his father and his father’s father on down. His Father had left them years before to try to seek out his forefathers “fortunes”.
The stories told of charms that were said to perform wondrous acts. Eight charms were known. A Heart that had the power to bring things back to life. A Shooting Star which grants the power of flight. A Horseshoe that will speed things up. A Clover that was full of luck (which kind you never know). A Blue Moon that makes the owner invisible. A Rainbow that will instantly transport you from place to place. A Balloon that holds the power of levitation. And an Hourglass to control time. There are tales of others but those eight are always mentioned in the old stories.
The Charms were taken from Tate’s ancestor while in the woods one beautiful afternoon. Chased by children who mistook him for a Leprechaun because of his emerald green cloak (the family colors). They chased him through the forest as he yelled “You’ll never get me Lucky Charms!” Out flanked and out maneuvered, luck was not on his side that day, the children were able to corner him and take his Lucky Charms. From that day forward the O’Chipp family’s luck had run out.
As a child poor Tate heard these tales and vowed to find the Charms and return them to there rightful place. On Tate’s 9th birthday his mother’s creditors came and took poor Tate from her. Abused, beaten and tortured for years, Tate prayed everyday to be set free. One dark and gloomy night a voice whispered out of the gloom. the voice promised freedom and revenge n all other gnomes who had oppressed him and his family. Seizing the moment Tate made a deal and sealed his fate (or so he thought). Using his new found power, in the form of the same scourge that so often beat him down, he was able to escape his bonds and extract some measure of revenge before traveling out in search of his families lost “Lucky Charms” and change his family’s luck!
