The halflings, being neither terribly strong for their size,
like the dwarves, nor being being longlived and graceful
like the elves, have struggled in this era of war and
bloodshed, however because of this struggle they have
become something far more useful and dangerous.
In their ability to avoid most of the wars and bloodshed,
the halflings had found a respite and formed a small
community of towns and village located in a shire
to which they farmed and enjoyed a simple but peaceful
existence.
This was until the defeat of Winter and the creation of the
Infant Sea, they would have been utterly destroyed, had not
the Mighty Hero Valandor sacrificed himself to stop the waves
long enough for them to run leaving their homes. Still Many died
not able to make it any of the mages working to save them.
Life has been hard for the halflings since found refuge in the kingdoms
of men, ecking out an existence within in the brutal cities. Picked on
by beings much taller than them until those same beings realized,
how useful someone small and able to get into difficult spaces, with
quick nimble hands could be. Halflings have formed a niche, within
the kingdoms of men, some whisked away to colleges of magic, but
far more finding the shadows more preferable, Naturally gifted with
potions and poisons, cuisines and ale. They are as apt to kill someone
without touching them as they are to throw knives or use daggers with
astonishing skill.
Those who shy away from the power of mages, or skills of a thief,
tend to serve to Shining Ones and make holy pilgrmages to see the
body of Valandor, located in the high mountains in the City of Golden Horn,
where they hope to live in his footsteps, helping others how they can
Halflings are in most street corners, listening for rumors, in taverns
slipping coins away from bleary eyed patrons and unseen even as
noblewomen call for guards as her bourdior has been picked clean.
For all their thieving, the most precious treasures they hold is the
reminders of the peaceful lives they used to have.Among all halflings
a kindred spirit towards each other is given, and all but the most vile
work towards building a new home for all halflings.
