First off guys, finally made an account, second of all I like you all as players and people this being said...."PREPARE THE SOAPBOX!"
Guys the notion of having someone rampage through a town killing left and right with no regret is something I tend not to let just vanish with the very rare exception of me running an evil campaign and even then I try to make it have consequences because most evil villains are...craftier than that. So simply by collectively clicking ones heels and wishing the problem would go away doesn't usually work. I say usually due to the fact that only when games are on the teetering edge of real life conflict do I try to intervene on a god level white washing. Unfortunately, I feel as though we have gotten to the point simply by having a pvp encounter. I did not want this course of action, nor do I think you the players wanted it either. This being said I do not blame the players, I blame myself I have spoiled you all by not making encounters, traps and puzzles hard enough to force you to work together. We have had two to eight players in this arena and very seldom have we had one unified team. I am not saying people are not willing to work together I see it every session what I am saying is the group is as a whole is not unified. Again I plan to rectify this. Concerning the matter of the barbarian and the denizens of Icewind Dale I simply offer this ultimatum rather than whole kill a random mook and get 5k more gold, before randomly trying to continue this disjointed adventure.
The Book is not the cause of Mr. Laurence's campaign of carnage. There is another motive I have in mind for his wicked and possibly errant ways. This is not to say that this solves the problems, the guards are suspicious of a burned head but try to give you a benefit of a doubt. However when inns start collapsing all over town with yours being the only one that still stands guards press deeper finding out Laurence is alive and further more a great many deaths have been attributed to you all rather directly or indirectly. Guilt directly is not necessary as guilt by association is enough. Councilman Valerian Orders your arrest and Both of the other Council members support the endeavor, before the guards can find you your dwarven allies working together with the drider and your shopkeeper are able to whisk you away quickly leaving the characters heading south with little on their person save the following.
2079gp of loot and or gear TOTAL meaning if you have magic items in a greater cost of this you lose some until you at this threshold same thing with gold riches or anything else with you.
Before People bemoan this is the level equivalent amount of treasure you should have at level 5 per the DMG.
I understand this sucks as do I understand this might cause finger pointing and blame. I urge it not to be so, regardless of reason you all are stuck together for the moment. The Drider has given you a contact in Waterdeep and hopes that by finding employment there you can rebound from this misfortune and cast off the shackles of the past. She promises to try to take care of you estate with the shopkeepers help so that at a later time I.E. Later level you might be able to reclaim what is yours and redeem yourselves in some appropriately heroic action. The Dwarven foreman Stokley SilverStream has joined you as a hireling who is holding onto the book as he is addicted to it as well but cannot read deep speech and thus is rather dependent on Snidley and Kaldra. He by that very nature is unable to leave but able to secure the book away from the two other addicts. It is not known to you how Icewind Dale will deal with its current threats with out heroes to protect it but that remains a mystery that must be solved later.
So dear heroes I know my hand has come down hard on you, but I urge you not to despair or become bitter. I myself promise to run tighter sessions, with more challenging and appropriate encounters and rewards for such. I promise epic adventures and more engaging stories. Your Story in Forgotten Realms is not over by a long shot.
