With the sun cresting over the horizon and after a cold season of winter, you arrive on the grasslands along the eastern side of the western river along the forest's edge. To the east across the river lies Tristan, your home. The memory of your childhood is triggered as you catch a breeze carrying the sweet smell of spices and fresh produce. The village appears smaller than what you remembered. As you look north following the river you spot a crossing bridge short a mile awhile. Still early, you see no activity within the village except for the dancing torches still burning from the night before.

Feeling a touch of nostalgia for the place that had once been his home, Balder hiked his bag further up on his shoulders and checked the pocket he had place the vine pod in before starting out. The weight of his fathers sword at his side and the Bow from Tivona hanging from his right shoulder gave him confidence for he was unsure how the people of Tristan would treat him. He was most unsure of how his aunt would react, she probably thought he was dead. His mind floated through the few memories of his childhood that he still held. He had to force his mind back into focus as he approached the town.

The walk to and over the bridge is peaceful and the town begins to awaken as you approach the center of the village. The smell of baking bread and cooking meat raises the memory of the mead hall, perhaps the largest building in town that fed the entire village at a time with food and drink. You remember as a child coming here to pick up bread for your Aunt often. Pressing towards your Aunt's house a Watch patrol passes you and one gives you a stare for a short time, perhaps trying to place your face to a family. They pass you with a nod. You come to the door of your Aunt's house. Before you can knock the door swings open revealing a women in her late thirty years with strands of grey hair. Behind her is an older man with dark brown hair flowing to his shoulders with a trimmed beard. Your Aunt Eilis and Uncle Gavan. They appeared to be leaving the house to get on with their busy day. Their smiling faces are replaced with one of blank stares and then shock.
Eilis: A soft whisper escapes her thin lips. "............. Balder?"
Gavan: Placing his scarred smith hands upon Eilis's shoulders. "Is it really you?"

Nodding his head Balder replied "Yea it's me, it's been a long time hasn't it?" Unsure of what else to say or do he stepped back, "I'm glade your safe and still doing well, I won't bother you further. Thanks for looking after me all thought years ago." He turned and started off, deep in heart he wished they would call him back but held no hope for if. Last time he saw his aunt they had not parted in the best of terms. His next task, he guessed, would be to seek an audience with the king.

On your twentieth step.....
Eilis: "Wait! Balder Wait!"
As you turn, you can see your aunt, with dress held up to avoid from tripping, jogging towards you. Once near you, she has a smile on her face with tears running down her cheeks. She embraces you a in a mighty hug. After letting go, she looks to you with smeared tears.
Eilis: "Will you join us for breakfast? There is much to discuss...." At the end of her
Uncle Gavan walks up beside Eilis as soon as she finished speaking. A grin is on Gavan's face. His grin slowly fades and turns into a solemn look as he looks over you more in depth. His eyes glance from your sword, to bow and back to your face.
Gavan: "Much to discuss...."

Balder let a smile slide across his face, "That would make me very happy" He allowed his aunt to guide him the the mead hall. Once the had there food and a place to sit Balder started his story. He told them about the hatred that had slowly turned to a bitterness. He told of how the first months had been hard and how he had almost starved if it had not been for the creatures of the woods. With everything he told them though he said nothing of Tivona, he was unsure of if anyone other than the king even knew of her. Finishing both his story and his meal he set his utensils on his plate. "It dose my good knowing that your both alive and doing well, but I must continue my journey. I promise that this time I will not be gone for ten years."

During the time in the mead hall, the townsfolk could be seen and heard coming and going in and out of the mead hall. Your Aunt and Uncle stared at you in amazement while you tell your tale, barely touching their food. With your final words they see you off with hugs and smiles on their faces.
Eilis: "You be careful Balder and come back as soon as you can."
Gavan: "You'll always have a place with us Balder."

Bader
Giving his Aunt a kiss on the forehead "I'll come by as soon as I'm able, please dont worry about me though."
Turning to Gavan "Please take care of my aunt, she's all i have left."
With his goodbyes said Balder headed out of town. Once outside of town he set himself on a path that would take him to Sanctum, the home of King Kaden. Getting there was on a small problem, getting in to see the king would be another story.

Along the journey north towards Sanctum, you notice that the road is quite lonely and not active this early in the morning. Three miles into the lonesome walk you notice a jackal laying low in the tall grass about twenty feet to your left.

You loose the arrow upon the jackal heading straight for its snout. It backs away quickly and growls at you as the arrow strikes the ground. As you scan the area another jackal emerges from the bush and charges you.

The two jackals take snaps at you in unison as you back away.

You are able to back away with only a strike from one of the jackal's bite (taking 1 piercing damage). You take a knee and let loose another arrow fly, striking the jackal that bit you straight through an eye. The jackal falls down, dead no doubt. The other jackal charges toward you.

Your arrow flies over the jackals head, flying into the vastness of the plains. As you begin to step back the jackal snaps at you wildly.
